Lucifer Rising (1972)

♥♥♥♥♥

I attended a Kenneth Anger event, showcasing several of his films, a concert and talks, and this was my favourite of the films. Like "Invocation of My Demon Brother" the visuals are quite mindblowing, but unlike Invocation, the soundtrack ranges from decent to marvelous while Invocation's counterpart was pretty useless, which makes all the difference.

Beautiful images.

Rear Window (1954)

♥♥

I was sitting the whole movie through, siding with the suspicious neighbour and the skeptical detective and only accepted the alternative right at the end. I can certainly acknowledge all the values of the movie watching the extra material, so maybe a re-view might adjust my review and the knowledge of the story, might allow me to simply delve into the atmosphere instead.

Man on the Moon (1999)

♥♥♥

A purely character-driven cinematic experience of a really interesting character, but overall I find the portrayal of the story doesn't live up to its potential.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

♥♥♥

While Terminator (1990) is one helluva sci-fi feast, Terminator 2 is not much more than a simple action movie whose execution is somewhat poor at that. Still, it's not bad exactly, just soso.

Commando (1985)

♥♥

Fairly average overall.
As an unrelated note, I thought it was interesting that Mr. Schwarzenegger actually seemed like he could be a good, caring father.

The Running Man (1987)

♥♥♥

Arnold is awesome as a rebel, and a movie centered around a revolt in the absolute onset of it, is truly legendary, and a fabulous take off.
I kinda liked the dystopian world and silly antagonists, but in terms of underlying content, it left me hungry.

The Aristocats (1970)

♥♥♥♥

Really charming characters, music and drawings and a fine story line. Must be one of my favourite Disney movies.

Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

♥♥♥

Suspected it was all nostalgia, but it was actually kinda neat. Eddie Murphy enters, and pokes fun at, an average Jerry Bruckheimer film, in a film Jerry Bruckheimer himself actually co-produced! Surprising self irony. Let's hear it for Eddie Murphy, and the 80s soundtrack!

Shadows has an intriguing atmosphere and a wonderful soundtrack, but ultimately I honestly found it too boring.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)

♥♥♥♥

Its intelligent remarks and its successfully maintained feel-good feel all the way through, results in an overall pretty good movie.

The Wild Bunch (1969)

♥♥♥

The environments were really fascinating and believeable and the cast were an interesting bunch to travel with, but overall I find "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" and "Once Upon a Time in the West" much better.
I have a hunch that a re-watch might increase the score by 1 though.

Bugsy Malone (1976)

♥♥♥♥

Bugsy Malone is a three star movie much of the time, but the originality, some great characters, snappe one-liners and the soundtrack makes me end it at four. Notably, Fat Sam is ridiculously cool hands down and "So You Wanna Be a Boxer" is one heck of a song.

Alien (1979)

♥♥♥♥

Intense, visually fascinating & stunning movie with a great feeling of isolation. Reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993)

♥♥♥

If you have the DVD version, I strongly suggest skipping the horrible intro, which might otherwise kill the desire to watch this pretty decent biography film.

A few funny moments and nostalgia for the first movie, but that's really all there is to it.

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006)

♥♥♥♥

In my opinion superior to Superman (1978) The villains are somewhat ridiculous, but I think Superman is a more interesting character here, though, as in the first movie, Christopher Reeve particularly excels when playing Clark Kent.

Batman (1989)

♥♥♥

"Tim Burton & Danny Elfman" is generally sufficient reasoning for experiencing a movie, and this case is no exception.
As the new Christopher Nolan Batman movies are pleasing the massive crowds these days, I decided to rewatch the old 90's Batman series, which all started right here. As said, Batman (1989) has a brilliant atmosphere courtesy of the sparkling audio-visuals, but somehow the story and characters just don't interest me sufficiently. Michael Keaton is not an interesting Bruce Wayne and The Joker does not really work insanity on me, which is a definite letdown, being the two primary characters. Albert is excellent however, and in my opinion better than Michael Caine's version, although I might be biased here. Ultimately I suggest watching Batman Returns instead, if you really want to see the Batman universe shine.
