Touching, well-made film, and a good portrayal of class differences (they are meaningless and sad).

Much better than Skyfall in my opinion. More twists, less overly powerful Bond who's also being outsmarted at times, which makes it more interesting. Well played by Le Chiffre.

Friday (1995)
♥♥♥
Pretty good if it wasn't for the sexism and sizeism. :/ The guys really don't treat women or even their girlfriends very well. The movie reminds me of Clerks. Friday was released one year after but was probably already in production when Clerks was out. Craig's father is quite a funny character.

At first I quite disliked the younger siblings for being irresponsible and ungrateful, leaving Karen with everything, but far in I finally could see why this was the state of affairs. Karen handled it best, while for the others even their basic composure was challenging to maintain with everything going on, and they each had their somewhat similar means of escapism which they vigorously and desperately clung to.

I've actually seen a lot of James Bond movies but it was before I started rating them. I seem to remember my favourite of the long-time Bonds was Roger Moore. I'm inclined to rank them like this: Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery, Daniel Craig. I don't remember what I felt about the different short-term Bonds. What annoys be about Sean Connery is not the acting but rather the type of Bond he plays. Hoping for a more progressive Bond in the future. There can still be romance, even towards many people, as long as he doesn't treat them worthlessly or mislead them but is upfront about it. He can have an asshole side but not be like that towards an entire gender, but rather to those individuals who actually deserve it. Furthermore there can be spy-movie antics, gadgets and the like which we all know from the series.

Liked it quite a lot! Well executed story, and pretty good music! That ending kinda came as a surprise, and being a sucker for even over the top romance I was quite saddened by it :'( , but on the other hand it seems to bring some realism into the movie world in general, with all those opting for happily ever after. It's sad now they're just each other's "somebody that they used to know". At least they could be friends, but maybe their previous intense emotions would get in the way and make it painful. Perhaps she was happy now, but he seemed less so, and that asymmetry is something one would often encounter in real life, and should really get "used to" (or at least accept), however difficult it is. Not the most captivating intro in my opinion, kinda over the top, but fortunately it gets on track after that.

wtf was that about a mother being scared your son plays with dolls and then John conforting her saying he's using it as a decoy to objectify women by looking up their skirts?! call out such homophobic bullshit and if he literally has the reason you say then that certainly is an issue. if it's just to get the mother to back off it's not good enough, her homophobia and internal sexism (thinking he's worse for having interests considered "girly") should be challenged. ...and then some patriotism and promotion of animal exploitation (cows milk) Other than that it was an OK watch. Nothing particularly interesting but also not overly boring.

The Bourne Legacy (2012)

I quite like it, more so than the previous two at least. Might be on par or better than 1! I feel like there's more focus on character development, and also the setting. A quite dystopian side of the world is shown, including organisations controlling society behind the scenes, manipulating media and other people to follow, and issues resulting from separation of fields and knowledge, so large groups of people might be working on something destructive while not knowing it because they're only allowed to see a small part of the picture. A bit drawn out that chase scene, not unlike the rest of the series.

Closer to 4 than 2. Would like to watch any sequels! Watched a fair bit of the animé. Besides that weird milk propaganda track - which is heard thrice(!) - the soundtrack is pretty decent. Maybe some milk company is trying to increase sales on the japanese market and donated to the film's production? That captain and Renji have fucked up morals in general. Even towards his sister?! If they represent Soul Society it surely shouldn't be joined but rather left.

As a fan of the anime films and series (especially the first film and first series) - with little knowledge of the original manga however - I wanted to watch this, despite the whitewashing which I too find worthy of negative criticism. They should've stayed better in the setting and used more or exclusively japanese actors. Besides that I found it fairly entertaining coming in with low expectations. I especially enjoy the time it dedicated to establishing the setting, one possible future of our society. I wish they'd used some of the original GitS music in the movie itself, not just in the end credits. I like its multisided nature, where it isn't clearcut good vs. evil. Beautiful audiovisuals, and pretty nice action scenes!

Actually much better than I expected, though still closer to 3 than 5. Not even sure if it wouldn't at least be on par with the original if they'd come out at the same time, and one wouldn't be favoured by nostalgia while another receives extra criticism for changing the gender of the cast. ...and so many nice, small roles, including the original cast except Harold Ramis, R.I.P. Also especially nice to see Omar Little from the Wire (Michael K. Williams)!! That machine looks daaaaalekkk inspired <3

Closer to 2 than 4. Kind of hollywood-like in many ways, with individual heroism and heartfelt scenes happening practically in the middle of a firefight and so on. Did like its brutal portrayal of war, however, which showed that it's especially the lower ranking soldiers that suffer, both from their own supposed side and the enemy's.
