ブラム (2017)

English title: Blame!

♥♥♥♥

A bit sad that Killy is seemingly everything the movie cares about all of a sudden near the end, unlike most of the movie. Lone, male hero. That said I assume the universe it's built on is like that, this is the first I've seen of it.

Ex Machina (2014)

♥♥♥♥

Closer to 5 than 3. Quite nice movie! I kinda maybe wished that the choice at the end would be a different one, where she didn't betray him, because I think it would show a more optimistic view of AI, rather than "they should not never be trusted" and thus "the imprisonment was maybe kinda justified by human survival".

The Big Short (2015)

♥♥♥

Closer to 4 than 2. I liked it, and it made me wonder what picture they showed of those bankers and investors at the end. Many of those portrayed are selfish assholes - yet is that glorified or shown as something negative? Maybe somewhere in the gray area?

PlayTime (1967)

♥♥♥

Quite suprised I didn't like this more considering its legendary status. I'd like to give it another chance at some point.
Arrogant picture-taking, chasing away her customers, not asking if you can take the picture and even pushing her to look at the camera. Seemingly she sees other people as NPCs. She plays piano really well though! Pretty hilarious that second photographer though.
That passage at the seemingly racist restaurant was just painful to watch ;) It got better later though, as people had a good time despite the massive chaos.
Annoying tourists ;)

Still, it does seem to be somewhat philosophical and feel like a documentary on some ways of living and spending time, obsession with consumerism etc.

Quite good, might even be my favourite? Beats Days of Future Past at least, I think.

Dear Mr. Watterson (2013)

♥♥♥

Calvin & Hobbes is my favourite comic, though the documentary was just decent, even kinda boring at times. Still it recallled fond memories when re-watching and re-reading a few of the comic strips shown during the documentary. They visit an archive where they store the originals, but the viewers are only allowed to look at the documentary host's reactions to seeing the originals, not see the originals themselves. That's not particularly interesting, and if the reason was that they didn't get permission I think that passage - and several others - could've been shortened or removed entirely.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

English title: Star Wars: Rogue One

♥♥♥

Probably my least favourite Star Wars-film on my first watch, being the only watch as of this review.
Not as good music-wise, and storytelling-wise. The movie didn't manage to make me empathise much with any of the characters.

Chaos on the Bridge (2014)

The clips from the show bring with them very fond memories(!), though the documentary itself is just decent in my opinion.

The Captains (2011)

♥♥♥

Moving stories and beautiful music and I like their philosophies. On the down-side I dislikes Shatners actions/questions at times, fx. talking to Mulgrew about how women are controlled more by their hormones and are different as leaders due to that, and seemingly thinking women should have more responsibility for kids. I also think he's rather creepy towards female fans, with sexual comments and even seemingly kissing without consent a few times. If not for that it would deserve a 4.

It Happened One Night (1934)

♥♥♥

Lot of sexism, including threats of violence. A bit sad message. She starts out really cool but ends up falling for an asshole and letting him treat her badly. Not that it's her fault, but it's a sad character development, especially when it doesn't seem like it's conveyed that it IS sad.

Very similar story to It Happened One Night - better, though not perfect. She's so much cooler/nicer than him, and you rarely see that age difference reversed in movies.
