Got really into this: The people, the battles, the speeches, the fight for freedom in contrast to the real lives of restraint, disappointment, monotony, isolation and devoid of love and contact. Really sad, but beautifully told.
Good photography and beautiful music! I want the soundtrack!

Level Five (1997)

A mixed experience. I found the factual parts and interviews regarding the history of Okinawa very interesting - not to say shocking - while for the most part all the sequences in front of the computer just confused me, with a somewhat meditative feel, but I clearly prefer both La Jetà (C)e and Sans Soleil, of the Chris Marker directed films I've seen.

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

♥♥♥

Somewhat confusing for a non-native speaker like myself, where the advantage of the book is that you choose the pace yourself. (and I love the book)

Decently charming 3d-animations, actually. Not good or great, but decent.
Too bad they went from one monarchy to 'a good monarchy' (get rid of the leader already and go for anarchism!) and great that the queen had sworn not to harm any living creature, ie. she's a vegan.

Crossing Over (2009)

♥♥♥♥

3/5 cinematographically, but I think it deserves an honorary 4/5 for the subject matter and surprising apparent attitude/openness from such a mainstream production - and for making me think.

Soundtrack so-so, filming so-so, acting so-so (I guess).
But FX Taslima's speech was very inspiring and surprising (given the mainstreamness), and making me think of just how much of a crazy nationalist, corrupt, shitty hellhole that the united states is, needing to take so much bullshit getting in and living there, that it hardly seems worth the fucking effort, even though you're escaping from a crazy dictatorship or a country in ruins partially because of the western countries turning a blind eye while exploiting and affecting them negatively in several instances. Makes me hate my own nationalist and racist western country a little more. I wish I had a united states green card so I could film myself cutting it in half. Maybe I should just symbolically sacrifice my current western country passport.

Found it very rushy and confusing narratively to begin with, but after a while the love story, and Audrey Hepburn in particular - you bastard - reeling me in and touching me. Quite beautiful second half.
