The Remains of the Day (1993)

Plot seems a bit all over the place, both with a grander story of sorts and a character portrait.
It's quite interesting as well, and while very extreme compared to what I'm used to, I can relate to the "keeping up appearances" at a certain level, fx. in people not being honest when asked how they're doing, how they feel about someone, brushing off if something hurt, preferring small talk while wanting not to because it seems more "proper".
And taken to this extreme, it becomes apparent how silly and counter productive it is generally speaking, even in smaller amounts.
