Beautiful film. Feels very strange that Jiro starts out as this big hero, but he leaves his ill, newly wed wife alone all that time focusing so much on work, and she seemingly doesn't care about her life which he just goes along with ( :/ ), not objecting to her staying with him, and smoking right in front of her instead of skipping that smoke in her company, when she won't let go of his hand. Get your priorities straight.

A story relevant to environmentalism and indigenous people ...and massive cojones - literally! Really beautiful and imaginative visually, and a good soundtrack! Very very sad in many ways too(!!!), despite on the outside seeming like a children's/family movie. A great trilogy overall - the varied, unique soundtracks in particular blew me away. Animé 1: Rating 4; haunting, isolation, space. Animé 2: Rating 3; mainly for the soundtrack. I think I saw this one a bit like a music video. Animé 3: Rating 5; long and demanding, but hardcore, technical, pointlessness, 1984-ish, depressing.

Closer to 4 than 2. Would like to watch any sequels! Watched a fair bit of the animé. Besides that weird milk propaganda track - which is heard thrice(!) - the soundtrack is pretty decent. Maybe some milk company is trying to increase sales on the japanese market and donated to the film's production? That captain and Renji have fucked up morals in general. Even towards his sister?! If they represent Soul Society it surely shouldn't be joined but rather left.
