Watchmen (2009)

♥♥♥♥

Pretty decent, but I wasn't blown away by it. Particularly remember not liking the ending that much, or at least the way it was told.

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006)

♥♥♥♥

In my opinion superior to Superman (1978) The villains are somewhat ridiculous, but I think Superman is a more interesting character here, though, as in the first movie, Christopher Reeve particularly excels when playing Clark Kent.

The Suicide Squad (2021)

Closer to 4 than 2.
Rankings:
The Suicide Squad > Suicide Squad = Birds of Prey

PEACEMAKER: I cherish peace with all my heart. I don't care how many men, women and children I have to kill to get it.

^ delivered like Albert Rosenfield would

Positive representation for rats is rare, and it's quite decent here!

Sad ending for the alien that was tortured for ages. :/
And WTF is that not publicizing the information?! Fuck that shit.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020)

♥♥♥

So much promotion of animal body parts / secretions. :/
Other than that a decent film.

Nicely mad(e) end credits!

Suicide Squad (2016)

♥♥♥

watched theatrical cut

too rushed generally
bad joker performance IMO

wild soundtrack. not particularly great (fitting), but certainly filled with mainstream hits/artists

the film gets somewhat better in the second half IMO, bringing the grade up from probably 2 to a certain 3.

feel kinda sad for the sorceress.
but evil woman in charge of threatening team is garbage

Wonder Woman (2017)

♥♥♥

Closer to 4 than 2. Happy to see a super hero film with a woman front and center and women in prominent supporting roles as well! <3 Also like to see characters that are both very strong and at the same time human beings with feelings, and not either or.
I think it could be written better, however. Liked the start on the island but it declined after that, and got kinda over the top and unoriginal towards the end.
Beautiful end credits!

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Maybe 2 is actually more fitting, but I'd need to rewatch it to decide.

Batman (1989)

♥♥♥

"Tim Burton & Danny Elfman" is generally sufficient reasoning for experiencing a movie, and this case is no exception.
As the new Christopher Nolan Batman movies are pleasing the massive crowds these days, I decided to rewatch the old 90's Batman series, which all started right here. As said, Batman (1989) has a brilliant atmosphere courtesy of the sparkling audio-visuals, but somehow the story and characters just don't interest me sufficiently. Michael Keaton is not an interesting Bruce Wayne and The Joker does not really work insanity on me, which is a definite letdown, being the two primary characters. Albert is excellent however, and in my opinion better than Michael Caine's version, although I might be biased here. Ultimately I suggest watching Batman Returns instead, if you really want to see the Batman universe shine.

Superman (1978)

♥♥♥

Not as good as I remembered, though still a good, albeit fairly forgettable, movie presenting a swell played Lex Luthor, but a sub par John Williams score, compared to Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Theme is great though, but besides that.
I guess maybe Superman is either too one-dimensional or just played that way. (which I wouldn't generally say is the case in the hero/villain debate, or at least that would simply be a general casting (or creativity) error.)

Batman & Robin (1997)

It's a drag to watch and you'll find yourself reconsidering atheism, in the desperate hope that some divine figure will descend from the heavens and spare you the misery. Unlike Batman, Returns and Forever, it attempts to be comedy and it fails beyond recognition. George Clooney's emotional range requires a microscope to barely notice - he's sort of in this silly, self-centered mood all the time and seemingly doesn't give a damn, when for instance, Alfred reveals that he's dying. He's like: "Fuck you old man -and get to work!" but luckily, his atrociously evident attitude is not noticed by his stupid surroundings, so he gets away it.
Hypothetically, had the movie been filled with Poison Ivy scenes from start to end, it would've gotten a much higher score. Unfortunately that's just hopeful speculation, so:
Warning! Steer clear of this one!
